Festival program

Welcome to our 2024 Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival In NY. This year, the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese calendar, we will bring you continuous fun and activities over the course of the fabulous weekend of August 3rd and 4th of 2024.

For over 30 successful years, the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York has been an international, multi-cultural celebration, and sporting event. It is the largest multicultural festival in New York and one of the largest Dragon Boat festivals in the US. The festival keeps up the age-old tradition of Dragon Boat Racing with a fleet of both traditional custom made teak boats and modern fiberglass boats, all of which conform to the International Dragon Boat Federation standards and are approved for International Dragon Boat Racing. All boats are colorfully decorated with a hand painted dragon head at the front and tail at the rear making them works of art gliding across the water. Each boat is powered by up to 20 members consisting of a drummer, a steersperson, and paddlers.

The festival takes place over two days at Meadow Lake in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, site of the 1964 World’s Fair in Queens, NY. Races start at 9:00 AM and continue through the early evening each day with races consisting of the NYC regular Open, Youth Invitationals, Charity races, Non-Profit Org races, Corporate Challenges, and many more. In addition to the Dragon Boat races, there are activities for the entire family such as the Main Stage featuring live musical performances, Martial arts demonstrations, and much more), The Arts & Crafts area (showcasing traditional folk arts and crafts), or the International Food court where you can find food and snacks. We are happy to have outstanding performers and artists returning this year and we extend our gracious welcome to many newcomers as well.

So without further ado, let the races and fun begin! We hope you will enjoy your weekend in the park and look forward to you joining us for our 2024 Celebration!
